Great for bell-ringer/start up activity. I use this book regularly. It models good writing from contemporary and classic literature, provides examples and opportunity for discussion and critical thinking, as well as provides students the opportunity to then sharpen their own writing. It is designed for whole class, partner, small group, and individual learning. Very adaptable to however a teacher chooses to use it. I use this workbook for my regular English classes in high school, or it could be used in middle school. I then use Voice Lessons for my advanced English classes.
I have been using this book with my 8th grade honors Literature class. We have really gotten a lot out of it. Each lesson takes about 5-10 minutes to complete, and about every other week we discuss several of them. They do one most days. At one point we read several Mark Twain short stories and the students wrote essays about Twain's voice. I was very impressed. I would definitely buy this book again!
If you buy one book as a middle or high school teacher, let me be this one. These pages serve as excellent bell-ringer activities. I'd be lost without it.
Use it every Friday with my sophomores in preparation for AP. It's a good level for them and I'm told my kids are well prepared the following year
This book is phenomenal! I am so excited to have this as a part of my teaching collection. I immediately began using it with my students once it arrived and they are equally pleased with the fun exercises and lessons. It really does make speaking an art!!!

The creator of this resource has done a good job of providing students with an introduction to rhetorical devices to increase their writing power.
I actually went to a training for ELL's and the presenter was actually using ideas from this book. I was able to get it and use it with my class to prepared them for STAAR test and this book is a great guide to help them. This book is a great resource for any lesson plan.
